| 1988 | Southern begins two year implementation period as part of achieving status as a NATA-approved program

| 1990 | Southern Connecticut State University becomes first athletic training
program in state to receive NATA-approved program status.

| 1991 | James Purgatore becomes first student athletic trainer to pass examination
as part of Southern's approved program

| 1991 | With the awarding of the NATA scholarship in New Orleans, David
Morgan begins Southern Connecticut's success in receiving organizational
scholarships to its students. Since this scholarship, Southern students have
received 5 Connecticut Athletic Trainers' Association scholarships, 2
NACDA scholarships and an additional NATA scholarship.

| 1995 | Southern completes a revamping of its academic curriculum. Highlights include the creation of two orthopedic assessment courses, two rehabilitation courses, and an emergency principles class.

| 1995 | Southern receives Honorable Mention for its Innovation in Athletic Training Management. This award is given by the editors of Athletic Management and is sponsored by Gatorade.

| 1995 | Southern Connecticut's athletic training program is named part of the
United States Olympic Rehabilitation Network to care for Olympic
athletes residing in Connecticut.

| 1995 | Southern Connecticut becomes one of first athletic training programs in
New England to receive the coveted status of accreditation under the new
CAAHEP standards. Southern remains only program in Connecticut that is either approved or accredited.

| 1996 | Sharon Misasi, Southern Program Director and Southern graduate , serves
as an athletic trainer at the Winter Olympics in Norway. Sharon worked in the spring of 1994 and each spring there after with the US Short Track Speed

The Exercise Science Department, assisted by the existence of
Connecticut's only accredited athletic program, is given distinctive status
within the four college Connecticut State University system.

| 1997 | Charles Davis is named President-elect of the Connecticut Athletic
Trainers' Association. He is to become President in 1998.

| 2000 | As the new millenium arrives, Southern completes its preparation for the
enacting of new athletic training education guidelines. Four clinical
courses are created, and courses in pathophysiology and pharmacology are
developed. Additional laboratory time is set to be added to both orthopedic assessment courses and to the modality classes.

Southern Connecticut is visited by the JRC-AT accreditation team after
completion of year long program self-study. The visit is successful with no deficiencies found, full reaccreditation was granted for 7 years. |
