New Athletic Training Fund Created

For the generous among us, the Athletic Training Department and the Office of Institutional Advancement have created a fund for Athletic Training. The  as of yet unnamed fund was started with a $800 donation from a firm in New York involved with the repair of Cybex machines.
The intended goal of the fund will be to create a scholarship in the name of long time Southern athletic trainer Bill McCarthy who retired in 1990. The proposed scholarship will be given to the

junior who has the highest GPA and demonstrates excellence in her / his clinical assignments. An endowed scholarship requires a total of $10,000 in donations and the interest serving as the scholarship amount. The goal is to offer the first scholarship in three years depending on available funds.

Connecticut Orthopedic Specialists Takes Reins as Team MD

The Connecticut Orthopedic Specialist Group, possibly the largest orthopedic group in Connecticut has taken on the role of team physician at Southern Connecticut. They replace Dr. Bill Lewis, the longtime team physician, who served Southern faithfully from 1990- 2002.
The new medical group took over this past August. Although a large practice,

the personal touch has been maintained with Dr. Diana and Dr. Cohen serving as the primary care givers.
Dr. Lewis left the role as team physician early fall 2002 and was replaced by Dr. Geiger of Housatonic Orthopedics. In his short tenure at Southern, Dr. Geiger made a positive impact on the athletes and staff and was greatly admired for his
