Graduate Study in Exercise Science

Program of Study

The purpose of the Master of Science in Human Performance is for students to acquire an in-depth knowledge of the exercise sciences.  Students are offered several areas of course emphases including: human performance, physiology of exercise and strength and conditioning.  There are two options for graduate study.  These options include a thesis (6 credits) or an independent study (3 credits) and a comprehensive examination upon completion of all course work.
 

Career Options in Exercise Science

Graduates from the M.S. in Exercise Science program may select a number of career paths include: directors of corporate wellness programs, clinical exercise physiologists (cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, etc.); professionals committed to the commercial and community fitness industry; and advanced
 

Admission Requirements

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 (4.0 scale) are required.  In addition, introductory courses in human anatomy, human physiology, kinesiology and physiology of exercise are prerequisites for entry into the graduate program.
 

Graduate Assistantships

The Human Performance Laboratory offers graduate assistant positions to qualified applicants.  Terms of the assistantship are for a 2-year period, a minumum of 15 hours per week.  A stipend is given for this service.  Graduate Assistant responsibilities include: assisting faculty with undergraduate instruction, performing laboratory testing and procedures and involvement in ongoing research.  Students interested in applying for a Graduate Assistantship position should send a letter of intent and vita to:  Dr. Joan A.
