Every year in the Spring, SCSU sponsors a competition for High School math students from the New Haven area. High Schools may enter up to two teams of four students each. The contest consists of five rounds. The first three rounds are individual rounds that test your knowledge of Arithmetic, Algebra and Geometry. There are also two team rounds one of which consists of a CAPT-style open-ended problem and the other is an "anything goes" round with some really challenging questions for your team.
This year the thirteenth annual contest was held on Thursday, May 3rd.
Dr. Hartog of Southern's Math department has prepared some sample questions to help students prepare. To check your work, here are the answers.
