STARS

Student Technology Assistance Reps

The mission of the STARS program is to bring students and Faculty/ITS staff together in a joint effort to explore the use of technology in teaching and learning. The program will provide the resources to hire and train students to work one-on-one with the Faculty/ITS staff to develop the critical mass of technological understanding on campus.

The program will pair students with Faculty/ITS staff on yearlong projects to experiment with and apply the technology. Initially, 12-15 students of any major will be competitively selected based on academic grounds and to a lesser extent based on their technical skills. STARS will be hired for up to 12 hours per week to work with their Faculty/ITS staff partners. STARS will receive extensive training (20% of their time) in the software tools used at the University. Through future development, 2002-2003, STARS will apply their technological expertise in various internships supported by the program. Internships will be offered at the University, non-profit organizations, and various businesses and industries. After completing the STARS’ four-year program at the University, they will receive an IT Certificate.

The Office of Information Technology would like to express its sincere appreciation to Carol Martin, VP of Institutional Advancement, for providing a $10,000 grant as part of the ‘Seed Funding’ for the STARS Program.
