I've logged in to eLearning Vista, but I don't see the course I want.

Only online and hybrid courses are available automatically in eLearning Vista. Otherwise, you must fill out a Course Instructional Delivery Form. Follow this link for instructions: Request a Vista Course Shell

My student cannot see my course after logging in to eLearning Vista.

On occasions, the data between Banner and eLearning Vista must be synchronized manually. If you have confirmed the student is registered through Banner, please contact Karen Musmanno x25116 who can run a synchronization for the student.

I am teaching two sections or more and would like to combine the sections in eLearning Vista, how do I do that?

Send an email to musmannok1@southernct.edu containing the Course Number and Section Numbers you wish to combine. After the request has been completed (takes approx. 24 hours), you will receive a confirmation email.

Any time I try to view a Microsoft Word document, it has all these weird characters in it that were not in my original.

You first need to save your Word document as a Web page and then upload to eLearning Vista using special encoding. First do a Save As in Microsoft Word and using the pulldown menu, select Web Page, filtered. Then go to eLearning Vista, upload the file and use the pull-down menu under Character Set to select the last item on the list, Western European (Windows 1252). This will encode your Word document properly.

Can I or my students forward email from eLearning Vista to an external account?

While it is true that eLearning Vista has a built in component which allows you to forward mail to an external account, we have found that forwarding within Vista Mail is intermittent at best. The problem has been reported to Blackboard who has acknowledged the software bug and has stated the fix will be scheduled for future releases. Because we cannot guarantee mail will be forwarded nor can we state when the fix will be available from Blackboard, we do not recommend using the mail forwarding feature in Vista.

I see all my courses, even if they are no longer active.

Courses will continue to appear in your Course List from semester to semester and are not removed. If you do not want to see them in your Course List, simply click on the Pencil to the right of the Course List Title bar and place a checkmark next to those you do not wish to see. Then click the hide button at the bottom.

Where can I find help in using eLearning Vista?

Academic Computing offers one-on-one tutorials (Go to Training link).

  • Blackboard offers a variety of tutorials and knowledge base information. www.blackboard.com
  • Links for online tutorials can also be found through the Training link on this site.
  • The Help file in eLearning Vista is very valuable. Has an index and search options and can be accessed from anywhere within your Course on eLearning Vista.

Why are we calling it eLearning Vista? What happened to WebCT?

Blackboard bought WebCT, so, in effect, WebCT does not exist anymore. The application that is the Southern Connecticut State University standard is called Vista. Hence, we are catching up to that corporate merger and no longer use the old name. In order to differentiate from the new (in 2007) Microsoft operating system, also called Vista, we are calling the Distance Learning System eLearning Vista.

I am unable to export my Gradebook to a spreadsheet. The button is missing.

The version of Java (1.6.0_0.2) that you are using is causing this to happen. Please upgrade to Java 1.6.0_03.

I'm on a Macintosh and am having trouble logging in and/or miscellaneous issues working within eLearning Vista.

The version of Java must be upgraded. Please visit Macintosh Java Download page for updating.

I copied content from a previous course I taught and now when I go to the Assignment Dropbox, all assignments are marked as "missed" for every enrolled student.

This is actually the effect of a new function within eLearning Vista. The function is called "Date Rollover" and it gives you the ability to change all due dates within your course at one time. To adjust all your dates, go to the Manage Course Tool. Click on the "Date Rollover" link at the bottom and adjust your dates accordingly. All previous "missing" submissions will be gone.

I am getting errors when trying to add a quiz to an existing Assessment.

This is a known issue uncovered during the migration of content from eLearning Vista 3 to eLearning Vista 4. Most often the problem occurs when there is an Assessment with no Questions attached to it on your old course content. Other possible causes are questions which originated outside of Vista (i.e., Respondus). Please view and/or download the instructions on how to fix here: Restoring Quizzes
