In this experiment, students will determine the magnitude and direction of the magnetic field of the earth. The magnitude and direction of a field produced by a current in a coil of wire will be determined. The students will use a directional compass to determine the resultant magnetic field of the earths and coiled wires magnetic fields. From these values, the magnetic field of the earth can be calculated.
