Mission

The mission is to provide a comprehensive approach to a professional preparation program designed ultimately to enhance the quality of life for individuals, groups, and society. The above-indicated mission and purpose statements are expressed in the following specific four-fold mission of the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies:

1. To offer a curriculum that leads the student to an increased understanding of the phenomena of leisure.

2. To conduct basic research which significantly contributes to the general body of knowledge.

3. To serve the community by conducting applied research and providing consultation and training to practitioners.

4. To serve society by providing professional practitioners who are skilled, dedicated, and ethical stewards of the profession.
