The Campus Writing Center provides consultation to support students in their development as writers. Writing tutors also assist in finding ways to address writing concerns with the goal of promoting confident, self-reliant student writers.  Any student currently enrolled in any course at SCSU may use the Center’s services free of charge. Using the Writing Center’s Services.

Referral forms are made available to faculty, advisors, and counselors if you wish them to initiate tutorials.  However, you do not need a referral.  You may simply come to the Center on your own and discuss your  writing with any of the staff.

Daily sign-in schedules are posted in the Writing Center, where you may choose a time that is convenient  for you and a tutor of your preference.  Appointments may be made by phone as well.  On the other hand,  if you wish simply to drop in, consultation is offered also on an “as available” basis.

Working in the Writing Center

You may consult a tutor with a draft-in-progress, with a completed draft, or with no draft at all.  The tutors are available to help you with whatever questions you have that regard writing.

The tutors will give you individual attention in order to help you develop a better understanding of your composing process.  They will not simply edit or proofread papers that have been assigned to you.  Rather,  they will offer suggestions and guide you as you refine your own writing.

In addition to tutoring/consultation  services, the Writing Center offers reference books and style guides which may be used in the Center.  We also have available a popular series of Tips for Writers handouts.

The Center is staffed by experienced student and professional tutors who are selected for their proficiency in writing and their ability to work well with student writers.
