Step Ahead Preschool
Day Care Services Available for SCSU Community and Students*

Do you need Day Care Services for your child(ren), ages 3-5 years old? Do you need before and after school care for your child(ren), ages 6-8 years old?


Services are available at A Step Ahead Preschool, a licensed non-profit establishment, located at 357 Pine Rock Avenue in Hamden, within walking distance of the campus. Call the director, Tiffany Murasso, for information about the day care services, rates, and activities at (203) 389-5609 (For information for day care services for children under 3 years old or for other licensed facilities throughout the state, please call the Connecticut Child Care Infoline at 1-800-505-1000).

*There is a limited number of partial subsidies for the day care tuition of children of SCSU students at A Step Ahead Preschool. The limited subsidies are on a first-come, first-served basis and are available only during the spring and fall academic semesters.

Affordable Child Care According to Income

Accepting applications now for children ages 3 to 5. Year-round care. Sliding scale tuition—New Haven residents only. Student rates available for students enrolled in GCTC or SCSU for a minimum of three credits.

The Learning Center offers a caring staff, a responsive environment, meals and snacks, a playground, and much more!

Program funded through a School Readiness Program and Day-Care grant provided by the city of New Haven and the New Haven Board of Education. The ELC is nationally accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Ask about other special rates for students at Gateway Community Technical College and Southern Connecticut State University. The Center is located inside Gateway Community Technical College’s Long Wharf campus off exit 46, I-95. Accessible by Bus.
