Information for Abusers

Hey Guys, Does This Sound Familiar?
  • Do you constantly criticize your girlfriend?
  • Do you make your girlfriend tell you everything she does when you're not with her?
  • Do you get angry when your girlfriend disagrees with you?
  • Do you make excuses for your actions by blaming someone or something else?
  • Do you frequently throw or break things when you're angry?
  • Do you believe that a man should always be "in charge"?
  • Do you think it's okay for a man to force a woman to have sex with him?
  • Do you ever restrain or hit your girlfriend?
  • Do you threaten your girlfriend with violence if she says she wants to break up?

    It isn't easy to ask yourself these questions, especially when the answers are "yes." Realizing that you are responsible for your behavior is the first step in making changes. But change can be difficult. Talk to someone you trust.

    Have you hurt someone in your family?
  • Accept the fact that your violent behavior will destroy your family. Be aware that you break the law when you physically hurt someone.
  • Take responsibility for your actions and get help.
  • When you feel tension building, get away. Work off the angry energy through a walk, a project, a sport.
  • Call a domestic violence hotline or health center and ask about counseling and support groups for people who batter.
