Admission Procedures for the Master of Arts in Women's Studies
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Students entering the Women’s Studies Master’s Program in the fall semester will enter the two year cohort. Students entering in the spring semester will take electives in their area of concentration and begin the cohort the following fall. (The cohort is the group of students with whom you will share core classes for both years of study.)

Applications are considered complete only when items 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 have been received by the Graduate Director of Women's Studies and item 6 has been received by the SCSU Graduate Studies Office

  1. APPLICATION
    Please print and complete the Women's Studies MA application form, which is in Word format. If you are unable to open or print the application, please contact the WS Office in Engleman Hall (203-392-6133) and have an application sent to you. Send the completed application, along with items #2, #3 & #4 below, to the Director of Graduate Studies via Postal Mail only. E-mail attachments will not be accepted. (Detailed instructions can be found in the application form.)

  2. TRANSCRIPTS
    Mail one official transcript from each educational institution you have attended to the address below. (Address is under item #5)

  3. ESSAY
    Compose a 500 word essay in which you explain why you are interested in pursuing a Master of Arts Degree in Women's Studies. Please be sure to discuss how completion of the M.A. degree will play a role in your future goals—whether they be academic, professional and/or personal.

  4. ONE WRITING SAMPLE
    Sample may be a newspaper article, web-based essay, professional material, or academic paper.

  5. RECOMMENDATIONS
    Have two different individuals who are familiar with your work send confidential Letters of Recommendation directly to the Women's Studies Graduate Director. Do NOT send these letters yourself.

  6. APPLY TO THE SCHOOL OF GRADUATE STUDIES
    In addition to this application for admission to the Women’s Studies Master of Arts Degree Program, you must also complete an application for admission to the School of Graduate Studies and have your original transcripts also mailed directly to the office of Graduate Studies. If you have not received a copy of the application for admission to the School of Graduate Studies, contact the Graduate Office at (203) 392-7000 to have the application form sent to you.
