richmond mayor douglas wilder visits southern
Former Virginia Governor L. Douglas Wilder, the first African American to be elected governor of a U.S. state and now mayor of Richmond , Va. , spoke at Southern Connecticut State University on Friday, Jan. 13, 2006, as part of the university's Martin Luther King Day observation. Mayor Wilder delivered his lecture-"The Movement: Past, Present and Future"--to a packed Lyman Center . The event, which also included performances by local choirs and dance groups, as well as remarks by members of the Southern community, was sponsored by the campus' SUOAF-AFSCME Minority Recruitment and Mentoring Committee and the university.
