Marcia Smith Glasper, Executive Assistant to the President, Director of Diversity and Equity

Ms. Smith Glasper is the executive assistant to the president and the director for the Office of Diversity and Equity. Her responsibilities include oversight of the agency's affirmative action program. She reviews and drafts policies, implements programs to facilitate sexual harassment training, monitors contract compliance and resolves complaints alleging discrimination.

She has worked in equal opportunity and affirmative action for the past 18 years for a number of state agencies such as Labor, Public Works, and Mental Health and Addiction Services. Ms. Smith Glasper serves as an adjunct professor in the Humanities Department at Housatonic Community College and in the Counseling and School Psychology Department at Southern.

She has a bachelor's degree in journalism from Southern Connecticut State University, and a master's in human services administration from Antioch New England Graduate School. She graduated from Bernelli University International Graduate School in 2000 with a dual degree in Religion and Government. Ms. Smith Glasper attended the University of Connecticut's Institute of Public Service in 2002 and received a Certificate in Government Leadership. She is a trained facilitator and instructor with the National Conference for Community and Justice (NCCJ) Conversations on Race Project, and cultural competence facilitator with the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services Multicultural Cultural Competence Cohort VII.

 

 

 

Paula Rice, Associate in Diversity and Equity Programs

Ms. Paula Rice has served as the associate in Diversity and Equity for the past four years.  She is responsible for drafting and implementing the university's affirmative action plan, coordinating diversity training, and conducting employee and student related discrimination complaint investigations.  She has also served on several search committees and monitored the search procedures for all university hiring activity for faculty, management confidential, professional and classified positions.  Ms. Rice is a member of the Connecticut Association of Affirmative Action Professionals (CTAAAP).  She holds an M.B.A. with a concentration in human resources from Sacred Heart University, and a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Connecticut.  Prior to accepting her position at Southern, she worked at Aetna in the Human Resource Compliance department for nine years.
