Ken Bungert

Ken is currently the Certification Officer & Title II Coordinator.  He has held this position since May, 2011.  He is a graduate of Bemidji State University in Northern Minnesota with a BSED in Physical Education and a MS in Education.  He also has post masters work in Higher Education Administration & Law at the University of Missouri - Columbia and University of Kansas.

Prior to his arrival at Southern, Ken spent the past eighteen years serving as National Licensing Officer for Argosy University, Director of Educator Licensing and Accreditation for the newly formed Office of the State Superintendent of Education in Washington DC, Director Office of Academic Credentials and Standards for the District of Columbia Public Schools - State Education Agency, and Director of Certification and Teacher Education with the Kansas State Department of Education. His past work experiences in education also included teaching and coaching at all levels from kindergarten through college and university, administrative experiences as an assistant and head coach in three sports, as an athletic director at the college level, and as an administrator in two different state education agencies.  He has served on a national accrediting board, and a state professional standards board. He has also actively participated, and served in leadership roles on a number of committees, and collaborative projects, at the state and national levels for various professional organizations and associations that include; The American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, The Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium, The Interstate School Leaders Licensing Consortium, The National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification, and the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education.

Edward Roman

Professor Roman received his Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Central Connecticut State University in 1974. He immediately began his teaching career in the New Haven Public Schools and successfully completed 31 years of service. During his tenure in New Haven he held various positions as a general and special education teacher. He received his  Masters Degree in Special Education and Sixth Year in Education Administration and Leadership from Southern Connecticut State University. In 1988 Mr. Roman was appointed as a Supervisor of Special Education and served the New Schools in that capacity for 15 years. In 2004 Mr. Roman joined the School of Education at Southern and was appointed as an adjunct professor within the Department of Special Education. Since that time he has also taken on the responsibility of overseeing the placement and supervision of student teachers for the department of Special Education.

Professor Roman currently serves as the Executive Director for the Connecticut Council of Special Education School Administrators (ConnCASE). He has also held various positions in Professional and Civic Organizations which include President of the New Haven School Administrators Association, President of ConnCASE, and Vice Chair of the Oxford Board of Education.

Pat is presently coordinator for all elementary education student teaching placements. He has been at SCSU for several years, many of which he worked in the Registrar's Office. He is a retired elementary school principal from East Haven, CT. While in East Haven, he served as an elementary and middle school teacher, as well as Assistant Principal at East Haven High School, Assistant Principal at Hays and Carbone Schools, and Language Arts Coordinator for the district. Pat realizes the demands of future educators and his goal is to provide the best classroom settings for our student teachers. He works closely with school districts and cooperating teachers in making sure our students are prepared for the challenges of teaching.   

 

 

Frank Carrano

Frank worked for 35 years in New Haven Public Schools as a teacher and as president of the New Haven Federation of Teachers. In addition, he worked for 2 years in Washington, DC in the Educational Issues department of the American Federation of Teachers. He has been an adjunct professor at SCSU for 8 year and is currently the chair of the Branford Board of Education. As coordinator of Field Experiences, his goal is to provide teacher candidates with opportunities for meaningful school based learning experiences.

Kate is currently pursuing her Master's in School Counseling at Southern. She graduated in 2010 from the University of Rhode Island with degrees in Elementary Education and Psychology. Kate currently works in the Dean's Office on various special projects and assists with admissions to the School of Education.
