research interests
Dr. Fopiano has co-founded the Educational Care Collaborative (ECC) a partnership that she shares with a Yale child psychiatry resident. The ECC primary goal is to promote the positive development of social and emotional needs of children in public schools through addressing mental health needs allowing children to fully attend to academic instruction. The ECC seeks to support children in schools through collaborating with parents, teachers, and teams to promote children's ability to thrive socially, emotionally, and academincally. Further, the ECC works to model collaboration with schools and school teams; partnerships between and among Universities, and the larger community. The ECC efforts are currently focused within the Hamden Public Schools in Hamden, Cunnecticut.
Research interests continue to focus on the needs of urban early childhood educators in public schools, school climates, and children's mental health needs in an effort to promote academic achievement for all children. Interests include commitment to strong and supportive teacher training, collaboration among school mental health teams and community agency teams, and the development of school mental clinics. A commitment to superior quality educational and mental health services in urban schools has been a career emphasis.
