structure of the certificate
One Certificate, Up to Seven Endorsements
This program was designed around the theory that there is core knowledge in emergency management, based on emergency management theory, practice, and process. Recognizing two broad generalist strains (public and private sector), Southern created a capstone (what we call an "endorsement") in emergency management and business continuity. Southern also recognized that different sub-areas have their own specific content demands, such as public health, hospitals, and schools. Finally, there are two functional sub-areas -- critical infrastructure assessment and exercise design -- that are so specific and important that they deserve their own courses.
Students complete the three foundation courses and one endorsement to receive the Graduate Certificate in Emergency and Disaster Management. They can then continue to add endorsements to their certificate to expand their knowledge.
