Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities:
Workload is 12 credits per semester. In addition, all department members share student advising and committee assignments. All faculty members are expected to be active in their fields.
The English department at Southern is dynamic, with 31 full-time members (including six recent hires), a brand new majors curriculum (including concentrations in literature, secondary ed, professional writing, and creative writing), and ongoing dialogues about how best to meet our commitment to student learning. The successful candidate must be able to teach both postcolonial literature and British literature 1900-present, as well as graduate courses in the field for our MA, MS, and MFA students. Teaching assignments will also include first-year composition, general education literature, and introductions to the English major.
Required Qualifications:
PhD in English by time of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates who speak to their experience teaching reading and writing to the wide range of students at a regional comprehensive university or similar institution.
