TITLE:              Chief Information Officer
DEPARTMENT:  Southern Connecticut State University

Southern Connecticut State University is seeking a Chief Information Officer.  The Chief Information Officer reports to the President and provides leadership, vision, oversight, planning, and management for all aspects of information technology including academic and administrative computing, management of the media center, computer center, telecommunications, data and voice networking, user support services, and technical aspects of distance and distributive education on and off campus.

Responsibilities include:  Providing leadership and vision and acting as an advocate for the development and use of information technology in instruction and institutional support with a customer focus; Providing leadership for the development of a Strategic Plan for the University's information technology initiatives, overseeing its implementation, and developing consensus among campus constituencies; Responsibility for budget (including monitoring and controlling expenses), personnel, and policy development as they relate to information technology; Managing the centralized aspects of information technology needed to lead the University in effective and efficient applications of technology that meet the needs of academic and administrative interests; Guiding the University's investment in technology including the preparation and implementation of technology based grant applications; Overseeing responsibility for academic and administrative computing, media center, data center, adaptive technology lab, telecommunications, data and voice networking, user support services, and technical aspects of distance and distributive education; Working with faculty in identifying opportunities of curriculum development and the application of IT techniques in the delivery of instruction; Providing leadership in proposing and evaluating applications of existing or innovative technology to enhance activities and maintain a state of the art operation; Recommending ideas, policies and procedures to keep pace in a field of constantly changing technology and marketing strategies;  Providing for access, training, and support of all IT related activities throughout the University; Assuming a major role in the selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of staff including the development and implementation of training and career development; Serving as liaison to the CSU System Office, other campus offices, and the local community in all aspects of information technology as well as assisting in the coordination of campus initiatives using information technology; Performing other duties and responsibilities related to those enumerated above which do not alter the basic level of responsibility of the position.

Required Qualifications:  A bachelor's degree in an appropriate field is required with a master's degree preferred.  A minimum of six years of progressively responsible professional experience in the management of information technology, preferably in a higher education environment,  along with a thorough knowledge of appropriate IT hardware, software, Web-based development tools, and multimedia applications.  Evidence of success in developing external sources of support; excellent interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills, and a demonstrated ability to build team support; a demonstrated ability to develop and/or implement a Strategic Plan for Information Technology; familiarity with current and future applications of information technology in instruction including distance learning and other areas within a University; a commitment to quality and client-oriented service; and a demonstrated understanding of a diverse student population and commitment to affirmative action.  These qualifications may be waived for individuals with appropriate alternate experience.

TITLE:              Assistant Vice President And Dean Of Student Affairs
DEPARTMENT:  Student Affairs 

Southern Connecticut State University invites applications for an exciting student affairs leadership position in an institution that is in the midst of a historic renaissance.  In addition to an aggressive building renovation and construction program, the campus is benefiting from new executive leadership, including the President, Provost, Vice President for Student and University Affairs, and the Vice President for Institutional Advancement. The Assistant Vice President and Dean of Student Affairs position will have the opportunity to contribute significantly to the excellence and success of its students and to help shape the future of the university as we embark on a newly approved strategic plan.

The University:  Southern Connecticut State University is one of four institutions in the Connecticut State University System.  It enrolls more than 12,000 students, 2,700 of which live on campus. Position Summary:  Reporting directly to the Vice President for Student and University Affairs, the successful candidate will be responsible for the leadership and direction of activities which enhance student academic success; strengthen existing and initiate new partnerships with academic affairs in order to create a seamless educational environment; promote the values of student leadership development and community service;  and  reflect a philosophical and programmatic commitment to learning outcomes and assessment, student development, and student engagement.   As a member of the leadership team of the University, the Assistant Vice President/Dean will work collaboratively with administrative officers from the arenas of academic affairs, finance and administration, and institutional advancement. The position will provide oversight and direction  for programs and activities which assure diversity, equity and access (Disability Resource Center, Multicultural Center, Women's Center, Sexuality and Gender Equity Center, international student services, and veterans services);  provide academic support services (Writing Center, Tutorial Center, Academic Skills Enrichment Center, SEOP/ConnCAS, and Career Services);  deliver coordinated and comprehensive wellness and prevention  oriented services (Health Services, Counseling Center, Drug and Alcohol Resource Center, and Wellness Center); and student discipline.  Under the leadership of the Vice President for Student and University Affairs, the successful candidate will undertake initiatives which develop and enhance the learning environment of this highly diverse and student-centered urban public university. 

Essential Qualifications:  The successful candidate must have an earned terminal degree in higher education administration or related field from a regionally accredited institution; nine or more years of progressively responsible experience in student affairs administration, including supervisory responsibility for personnel, program development, budget management and oversight, policy review and strategic planning, research, evaluation and the assessment of learning outcomes.  The candidate must possess excellent organizational, analytical, interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrate a record of collaborative leadership and shared decision-making.   The candidate must offer evidence of relevant on-going professional activity, demonstrate knowledge of the uses of technology to enhance student service delivery systems, and possess the  ability to create effective partnerships within the university and with external constituencies, including with the parents/families of our students.  

Preferred Qualifications:  The successful candidate will have direct operational and/or oversight experience in most, if not all, of the units which report to it.  Grant and fund raising experience is desired.

TITLE:              Associate Dean                                                  DEPARTMENT:  School of Arts & Sciences

Duties and Responsibilities:  Southern Connecticut State University invites applications for the position of Associate Dean of the School of Arts & Sciences.  The Associate Dean assists the Dean in the general operations and functions of the Office of the School of Arts & Sciences, which is comprised of nineteen (19) departments offering bachelors, masters degree and the sixth year diploma.  As a member of the leadership team of the Dean of Arts & Sciences, the Associate Dean participates in the decision-making and resource allocation process for the school, assists in strategic planning at the school level, and in the development of a vision for the future.  The Associate Dean is also expected to assist and/or represent the Dean to the school's diverse constituencies.  The Associate Dean is accountable to the Dean of the  School of Arts and Sciences and is the dean's deputy in all matters concerning the School of Arts and Sciences.  In the absence of the Dean, the Associate Dean serves as the Chief Academic Officer for the school.  Other responsibilities include:

• Student-faculty relations.  First contact person for all student issues submitted to the office.

• Coordination of the secondary education programs within the School of Arts & Sciences.  Serves as Dean's representative to the Articulation Committee and the Unit Assessment Board. 

• Coordination of benchmarking efforts for programs within the school.   Includes data retrieval and processing and report writing.  Assists with program development, curriculum assessment and development.

• Initiation and coordination of an outreach program within the school for the greater New Haven community.  This outreach program will include working with departments to create on-line courses, Advanced Placement institutes, summer camp opportunities and exploration of offering courses and degree programs to meet the needs of adult learners.

• Review of proposed schedules submitted by all departments.  Includes review of enrollment histories, the rotation schedules set by the departments and feasibility of staffing the schedule as well as budgetary monitoring of institutes.

• Assists in budget management and budget preparation.

• Coordination of Proficiency Policy, placement examination and other responsibilities associated with New Student Orientation and FYE.

• Assists the dean in the day-to-day operations of the office, including supervision and development of office policies.

• Other responsibilities and special projects as determined by the Dean of Arts & Sciences.

Required Qualifications:  The successful candidate must meet the following qualifications:
• Earned PhD. in a discipline within the school from a regionally accredited institution of higher education;
• Teaching experience at the Associate Professor rank or higher in a department that reflects the school's curricula;
• Knowledge of educational technology and outcomes assessment;
• Demonstrated skills in oral and written communication.
• Ability to work as a team member. 
• Understanding of the issues affecting the programs within the liberal arts and sciences, particularly those which address the ideals of liberal education.
• Demonstrated commitment to student success.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity.
• Three to five years experience in Academic Administration

Preferred Qualifications:
• Evidence of substantive administrative experience in higher education, such as experience as a department chairperson or chairperson of a university-wide committee;
• An understanding of the NCATE accreditation process;
• Experience in grant writing and/or grant administration;
• Demonstrated skills in budgeting, planning and fiscal management.

Position Summary
Reporting directly to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs, the successful candidate will provide effective leadership in the institution's efforts to develop a systematic program of student learning outcomes assessment, will be responsible for coordinating periodic academic program reviews, and will assist in the ongoing management of academic program development.  As the academic compliance officer, the Associate Vice President will have primary responsibility for ensuring that standards of excellence are maintained, consistent with the requirements set by national, regional, and disciplinary accrediting bodies.  This Associate Vice President will serve as the university's liaison with the Northeast Association of Schools and Colleges and support department chairs in their affiliation with their respective accrediting/licensing organizations.  Serving as a member of the Academic Affairs leadership team, the person in this position will participate fully in the decision-making processes of the division.

The Associate Vice President will coordinate the Faculty Annual Activity Report, provide assessment training for faculty, serve as liaison to the undergraduate Curriculum Forum and the Graduate Council, produce a variety of reports to be submitted to the President, the System Office, NEASC, or other accrediting bodies, and assume other duties as assigned by the Provost.


Essential Qualifications
Earned terminal degree from a regionally accredited university.  Demonstrated knowledge of the research and literature on the assessment of student  learning.  Demonstrated experience managing an office that assesses student learning.  Demonstrated knowledge of the expectations of accrediting/licensing agencies and appropriate institutional responses to accrediting requirements.  Practical knowledge of an array of software packages and other technologies used to effectively and efficiently collect, analyze, and interpret data related to student learning and academic program performance.  Commitment to a student centered learning environment that promotes student success for all students.  Record of positive, collaborative leadership and decision-making.  Excellent organizational, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
Success in writing grant proposals for external funding.  University teaching experience at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.  Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a collective bargaining environment.  Earned tenure in an academic department within the Connecticut State University System.

TITLE:              Dean                                                                      DEPARTMENT:  School of Education

Duties and Responsibilities:  Southern Connecticut State University invites applications for the position of Dean of the School of Education.  The Dean provides overall budget, personnel, and curricular leadership over the School comprised of five (5) departments, offering bachelors, masters, and the education doctorate in educational leadership.  As a member of the leadership team of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean participates in the decision-making and resource allocation process for the entire division of Academic Affairs.  The Dean is expected to lead in strategic planning at the school level and to assist in the development of a vision for the future.  Working with local principals and superintendents, as well as with state education officials, the Dean will participate in the development of K-16 initiatives.  Southern Connecticut State University is NCATE accredited and will begin its next NCATE review for re-accreditation in February 2009.   

Required Qualifications:  The successful candidate must meet the following qualifications:
• Earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution of higher education;
• Demonstrated experience with NCATE accreditation process;
• At least three (3) years administrative experience at the department chairperson level or higher;
• Demonstrated experience in budgeting, planning and fiscal management;
• Teaching experience at the university level in a department that reflects the school's curricula;
• Demonstration of substantive scholarship, which may include peer-reviewed publications and/or presentations at the regional/national level;
• Knowledge of educational technology and outcomes assessment;
• Knowledge of special issues facing urban school districts.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity.

Preferred Qualifications include administrative experience at the associate dean level or higher, experience in K-12 institutions, and experience in grant writing and/or grant administration.
