POSITION TITLE: Network Security Specialist
RANK:   Administrator  IV
DEPARTMENT:  Office of Information Technology
SUPERVISOR:  Director of Communication and Telecom Services

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Network Security Specialist is responsible for the development of Office of Information Technology security policies & procedures, implementation of these procedures, along with investigation and resolution of incidents, to ensure a stable and secure network and systems infrastructure for the SCSU System.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Contributes to the management of identified security risks of the SCSU network both wired and wireless.
2. Participates in the development of security policies and procedures.  Provides policy interpretation and consultation.
3. Designs, develops, and implements of network security architecture, especially wireless, in compliance with SCSU security policies and state, and federal regulations.
4. Researches, implements, maintains, documents and tests all of SCSU's network components and devices (firewalls, IDS, Remote VPN, etc.).
5. Contributes to the design and implementation of storage network architecture
6. Provides post-implementation problem solving, trouble shooting, and support as related to network and system security.
7. Investigates or manages the investigation of security incidents.
8. Administers the definition of user Id's and computer resources in networked servers, clients and remote access security products.
9. Monitors network and systems for intrusion incidents and anomalies.
10. Performs special security projects, as necessary.
11. Performs other duties and responsibilities related to those enumerated above which do not alter the basic level of responsibility of the position.

QUALIFICATIONS

A bachelor's degree in technology related field or equivalent work experience.  Four years of security
administration experience, ideally working with Unix and Windows systems in a large multi-protocol
networked environment. Knowledge of TCP/IP, routers, firewalls, VPN, NetAPP SAN storage networking, WISM, Cisco equipment, FC over Ethernet, iSCSI, sniffers, and other security tools.  A professional certification (CISSP, CDRP, etc.) is a plus.

The candidate must be innovative, service and self-motivated, team-oriented, adaptable and capable of managing competing priorities. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrate commitment to quality and continuous improvement.   The candidate should understand and have a familiarity with working within formal service management and project management frameworks.  These qualifications may be waived for individuals with appropriate alternate experience.
