Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities:       

Normal teaching load is four courses per semester, which could be reduced for significant curriculum development and research.  Successful candidate will be expected to teach two Ethics courses in the general education program, one course in area of specialization, and one related upper-division course, such as Philosophy of Science.  All faculty share student advising and committee assignments.

Required Qualifications


Degrees in both Philosophy and in a natural science or in the field of Science, Technology and Society (STS). The applicant should have a PhD in one and an advanced degree, or equivalent, in the other.

Evidence of ability to teach university courses.  Ability to engage in meaningful scholarship/creative activity, leading to presentations at professional meetings and publications in peer-reviewed journals. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

PhD in biomedical ethics or ethics of genetic engineering or applied ethics, plus an advanced degree in a natural science or Science, Technology and Society. Demonstrated record of leadership in university curriculum development.
