Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities:       
The Psychology department at Southern Connecticut State University invites applicants for a full time, tenure-track position at the level of ASSISTANT or ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR. Candidates should possess a PhD in Experimental Psychology, Biological Psychology, or a closely related field. Area of expertise is open, but individuals specializing in animal learning, animal cognition, or behavioral pharmacology are strongly encouraged to apply.  The successful candidate should be qualified to teach sections of Research Methods, Statistics, Learning, Comparative Animal Behavior, and undergraduate and graduate courses in the applicant's area of expertise.  The preferred candidate must demonstrate an active animal research program with evidence of research productivity; evidence of ability to teach effectively; and a demonstrated ability to mentor undergraduate and graduate student research.

The position has a 12-hour credit load per semester, which includes credit for supervising student research, undergraduate and graduate theses.  In addition, the candidate will be expected to share responsibilities related to advisement of Psychology Majors, and perform service activities for the Department and University. Southern offers reassigned time for research, University grants for research and curriculum development, sabbatical leave, and support for grant applications.

Required Qualifications: 
Applicants should have received their PhD by the time of appointment, and be able to provide evidence that they are able to engage in meaningful research activity, leading to presentations at professional meetings and publications in peer-reviewed journals in the discipline.

Preferred Qualifications: 
Prior experience teaching at the college level is highly desired, as is postdoctoral research training. Preferred candidates will also be able to demonstrate a record of scholarship/creative activity, including the ability to secure external funding.
