Counseling and School Psychology Department

Rank:  Assistant/Associate

Specialization(s):  Full Time Tenure Track Position in Community Counseling

Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities:  Selected candidate will be responsible for teaching core courses in CACREP accredited program in Community/School Counseling.  These courses include  but are not limited to: Theories of Counseling, Counseling and Life Span Development, Multicultural Counseling, Family Counseling, Substance Abuse, Counseling and Practicum/Internship Seminar.  The selected candidate will also be expected to provide clinical supervision of both Practicum and Internship students in the Community Counseling Program.  Student advisement and other Department/University committee assignments will also be required.

Required Qualifications:  Earned doctorate from an accredited University in community/mental health counseling or a closely related field, teaching experience in a CACREP Accredited program, and a track record of research, publications and presentations.  Demonstrated clinical experience and university teaching experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:  Experience as a community/mental health counselor, beyond practicum and internship field experiences will be considered as an asset.

Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities:  The normal teaching load is four courses per semester.  The successful candidate will be expected to teach on the undergraduate and graduate levels, supervise student teachers, advise students, and serve on department, school, and university committees. There are opportunities for reassigned time devoted to scholarly research or creative activity.

Required Qualifications:  Earned doctorate in education or related field at the time of appointment. Applicants must show evidence of the ability to teach university level courses effectively and the ability to engage in meaningful scholarship/creative activity.
 
Preferred Qualifications:  Earned doctorate in Curriculum, Teacher Education, or another discipline in education.  Candidates should have the equivalent of two years experience teaching at various levels; experience in urban education; commitment to teacher education and the profession; potential to contribute to effective partnerships with Pre-K-8 schools; demonstrated ability to teach and mentor a diverse student population; experience in student teacher supervision; and a record of scholarship/creative activity.

Specialization(s): Science and Technology Education

Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities:  Normal teaching load is four courses per semester.  The successful candidate will be expected to teach elementary/early childhood science and technology courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, supervise student teachers, advise students, and serve on department, school, and university committees. There are opportunities for reassigned time devoted to scholarly research or creative activity.

Required Qualifications:  At the time of appointment, the candidate must have an earned doctorate in Elementary Education, Teacher Education, or Curriculum and Instruction with emphasis in Science Education.  Applicants must demonstrate knowledge of Pre-K - 8 science content and pedagogy and the ability to engage in meaningful scholarship/creative activity.

Preferred Qualifications:  Earned doctorate in the area of Science Education.  Candidates should have the equivalent of two years experience teaching science at various levels; knowledge of technology, standards and curriculum; commitment to teacher education and the profession; potential to contribute to effective partnerships with Pre-K - 8 schools; the demonstrated ability to teach and mentor a diverse student population; and a record of scholarship/creative activity.

Exercise Science Department

Rank: Assistant/Associate Professor

Specialization(s): Physical Education Pedagogy

Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities:  Teach undergraduate courses in fundamental skills, pedagogy, supervise student teachers and internship students at the elementary and secondary levels; engage in scholarly activity, and willingness to participate in innovative department/college curricular and programmatic development, including but not limited to community activities.

Required Qualifications:  Earned doctorate degree in pedagogy or closely related field by the time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:  Evidence of teaching experience preferable at both public school and college levels; evidence of commitment to diversity; evidence of capability to engage in research and make professional presentations; and the ability to utilize technology in the classroom.

Rank: Assistant Professor

Specialization(s): Athletic Training Major

Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities:  The selected candidate will provide course instruction, within the university's CAATE-accredited athletic training education program and other courses as assigned by the Exercise Science Department Chairperson. Normal teaching load is 12 credits per semester. All faculty share student advisement and committee assignments. Position effective date: August, 2008

Required Qualifications:  Applicants must have at a Doctoral Degree and experience in teaching in a university-based athletic training program. Consideration will be given to those applicants with a Master's Degree who present outstanding qualities as described in this announcement. Applicants must be a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association and be certified as an athletic trainer through the Board of Certification Inc. and eligible for licensure as an athletic trainer in the State of Connecticut.

Preferred Qualifications:  Significant experience as a practicing athletic trainer and experience serving as course and clinical instructor of athletic training students at the university level. Additional credentials in other allied health professions and/or CSCS certification.

The Department of Special Education and Reading seeks applicants for a tenure track position in the Graduate Reading Certification Program.

Responsibilities: Teach graduate level courses in Reading  /  Language Arts
with emphasis on diagnostics and remediation ( normal teaching load is four courses per semester); Graduate student advisement; Department and University service; Research and/or scholarly creative activity

Required Qualifications: Earned doctorate in Reading or a related field;     Minimum of three years K-12 Reading/ Language Arts teaching; Knowledge / experience with teaching graduate level courses in diagnosis and remediation;      Experience with clinical supervision; Record of, or strong potential for, scholarly activity; Computer literacy
Preferred:  Experience at the Middle and Secondary level; Capability to develop and direct Reading Center
