Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include graduate and undergraduate teaching, enhancement of interdisciplinary education and practice, participation in scholarly activities, and clinical supervision. Teaching and research interests may include adult neurogenics, fluency, dysphagia, voice, child speech disorders or basic communication sciences and processes. There are two 10-month tenure track positions available (each with possible summer employment).
Required Qualifications:
Earned Ph.D. in Communication Disorders or related field; ABD candidates considered. If ABD, candidate must earn doctorate by end of first year of appointment. Evidence of ability to teach effectively at university level. Ability to engage in meaningful scholarship/creative activity, leading to presentations at professional meetings and publications in peer-reviewed journals in the discipline.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP); Eligibility for Connecticut state licensure.

Recreation and Leisure Services Department

Southern Connecticut State University, which is located in New Haven, Connecticut, is accepting applications for a full-time tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor to work in the Recreation and Leisure Studies Department beginning August 2008.
Responsibilities: Candidates will be asked to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in core areas of the recreation and leisure studies curriculum as well as specialization courses commensurate with applicant background and experience. Our department will entertain applicants with a broad cross-section of expertise. Candidates with background in management/administration, outdoor recreation, or youth development, are encouraged to apply; however, other areas of specialization will be considered. Additional responsibilities include student advisement; department, college, and university service; scholarship/creative activity; and professional activity.
Qualifications: Candidates must have an earned doctorate in an appropriate field of study. Candidates who are ABD may be considered; however the doctorate must be completed by the end of the first year of appointment. Additionally, candidates must have the ability to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate level; and to engage in meaningful scholarship/creative activity leading to such things as presentations at professional meetings, and publications in peer-reviewed journals in the discipline or related fields. For appointment at the associate professor rank, candidates must have evidence of prior effective teaching and a demonstrated record of scholarship and creative activity. It is highly advantageous if the candidate has work experience in the field of parks and recreation.
Rank and Salary: Rank and salary will be commensurate with professional background, qualifications, and experience. Salary will be competitive.

Social Work Department

Specialization: Direct Social Work Practice
Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities: The Department of Social Work at Southern Connecticut State University invites applications for a tenure track faculty position beginning August 25, 2008. The department offers both BSW and MSW programs in social work. This position is in the undergraduate program. The teaching load is four courses per semester, however, many faculty teach field courses which reduce the number of courses taught. The successful candidate will be expected to teach practice with individuals, families, and/or groups, and human behavior in the social environment. Additional faculty responsibilities include student advising and committee assignments. Reassigned time is available for scholarship.
Qualifications: Applicants must have at least two years direct social work practice experience and be prepared to teach a variety of practice and HBSE courses. Applicants must possess a MSW and should also possess a PhD or DSW. ABD's will be considered. If ABD, the candidate must have earned the doctorate by the end of the first year of appointment. Applicants are expected to engage in scholarship leading to presentations at professional meetings and publications in peer-reviewed journals. A research background and a demonstrated record of scholarship are preferred.
