POSITION TITLE: Web Application Development Specialist
RANK:   Administrator  IV
DEPARTMENT:  Office of Information Technology
SUPERVISOR:  Director of Enterprise Applications

POSITION SUMMARY

The successful candidate must be able to work independently to analyze, design, program, test, and perform overall development of new and future web based information systems as required by the University, under the supervision of the Director of Enterprise Applications.  The Web Application Development  Specialist will also be responsible for coordinating and maintaining both intranet and external web University web sites.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Analyzes systems and design and write computer programs independently;  documents requirements and specification and implement new and future web-based information systems.
2. Coordinates operations and programs for existing systems in various administrative and academic  areas.
3. Assists in systems programming work as designed by Director.
4. Develops and implements WWW applications that supports real-time data acquisition, storage, retrieval, and presentation.
5. Serves as expert in relevant products and supports existing and purchased systems.
6. Produces special report as required
7. Provides faculty, staff, and students with application level and technical support.
8. Coordinates, maintains, supports University interfaces, files, reports, and /or any other reporting mechanisms as needed.  Assists with hardware and software configurations and installations as required.
9. Acquires and maintain a thorough knowledge of web security model.  Works with network and system administrators in assuring application and data security.
10. Assures the performance and features of the information systems and websites.
11. Performs other duties and responsibilities related to those enumerated above which do not alter the basic level and responsibilities of the position.

QUALIFICATIONS

A bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, or a related area from a fully accredited University.   Four or more years of professional experience in developing secure enterprise class web based application, and demonstrated knowledge of programming.    Applicants must possess skills in one or more of the following areas:  Javascript,  JSP, Servlets, XML, XHTML,  SQL, Oracle or similar database, Visual Studio, .NET,  and PHP.   Experience with portal administration such as SCT Luminis, channel development or knowledge of content management systems is also highly desirable.

The candidate should possess strong oral and written communication skills, should be able to provide examples of clear written documentation, and should understand and have a familiarity with working within formal software lifecycle and project management frameworks.  A successful candidate will also demonstrate the desire and ability to learn new skills quickly and a commitment to excellence in a service-oriented environment.  An equivalent combination of experience and credentials may also be considered.
