Required Qualifications:
PhD in English or Rhetoric/Composition by time of appointment and demonstrated effectiveness in teaching first-year composition.
Preferred Qualifications:
Expertise in either writing assessment or writing program administration highly desired. Preference will be given to candidates who speak to their experience teaching reading and writing to the wide range of students at a regional comprehensive university or similar institution.

The candidate will join two other full-time secondary ed colleagues in a program with NCTE/NCATE national recognition. The English department at Southern is dynamic, with 31 full-time members (including six recent hires), a brand new English major curriculum (including concentrations in literature, secondary ed, professional writing, and creative writing), and ongoing dialogues about how best to meet our commitment to student learning. The successful candidate must be able to help develop an active field network of teacher-mentors, participate in program accreditation, and teach first-year composition, methods
Required Qualifications:
PhD in English by time of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
At least four years of exemplary work as an English language arts teacher in a public secondary school, experience with Critical Media Literacy in the secondary ed curriculum, and a demonstrated knowledge of both NCTE Teacher-Training Standards and Common Core State Standards, as well as related assessment practices. Preference will be given to candidates who speak to their experience teaching reading and writing to the wide range of students at a regional comprehensive university or similar institution.
