Paul Petrie has received the Faculty Scholar Award for his book Conscience and Purpose. Fiction and Social Consciousness in Howells, Jewett, Chesnutt, and Cather (University of Alabama Press, Studies in American Literary Realism and Naturalism series, 2005).

Readings (Fall 2009)

Thursday, September 24th, 8 p.m.: Fiction writer Xhenet Aliu (former Southern undergrad and MFA recipient from UNC-Wilmington) and poet Nancy Kuhl.

Monday, October 5th, 7 p.m.: Poets Tony Fusco and Lisa Seidlarz (both Southern graduates; Lisa is working on her MFA at Western CT. State) will read from their recently-published collections!

Monday, October 19th, 7 p.m.: This year's Connecticut Poetry Circuit poet, Maria Gillan.

Tuesday, November 10th, 8 p.m.: Poet Professor Dana Sonnenschein takes a break from sabbatical to read from her new book, with fiction writer Sarah Borden (Southern MA graduate and MFA from Warren Wilson).
