Opening Reception: "Art With Words" Exhibit

The SCSU Multicultural Center cordially invites you to the opening reception for "Art with Words," The Art of Gabrielle L. McLemore, Ph.D., as part of the  many festivities happening on the SCSU campus on September 27, 2012.  Please join us as Dr. McLemore, the artist, will be here in person to discuss her unique drawings and Afro-centric jewelry. 

 

The SCSU Multicultural Center presents

"Art with Words," The Art of Gabrielle L. McLemore, Ph.D.

"ART WITH WORDS" is the art of making art out of words. Drawings are painstakingly rendered in pencil and detailed with Sharpie markers, and are one-of-a-kind, Afro-centric and uniquely recognizable to the viewer as being inspired by a deep love of African American people. 

From a distance, the viewer will see that each picture forms an intricate, black and white geometric design; however, upon closer inspection, the eye of the viewer will discern that each design is composed of words meticulously fit into the shape of the map of Africa, which can form a turban, a collar, an earring, a beard, a hat, an eyebrow or even hair! The artist says, "My brainchild, ART WITH WORDS by Cowrie Queen Creations, frees me to be me."
