Physics Department Seminar

Dr. David Ciardi of the NASA Exoplanet Science Institute and California Institute of Technology will give a talk entitled "A Search for Dust in the Habitable Zones Around Solar-like Stars."

As part of a comprehensive program to understand and characterize dust in the solar systems around other stars, Dr. Ciardi is searching for and measuring the near-infrared and mid-infrared emission of dust around nearby stars.  These debris disks provide clues to the presence, formation, and evolution of planets around other stars.  An overview of the program, basic observational results, and what has been learned will be presented.
