"Politics and Apple Pie: A Look Into The 2012 Presidential & Congressional Elections"
Come and join us for an informative discussion of the fall elections over a slice of good old American apple pie! Erin McPike (left), a reporter covering the presidential race for the online political news publication Real Clear Politics, will deliver the keynote speech for the forum, "Politics and Apple Pie: A Look Into The 2012 Presidential & Congressional Elections." McPike is a frequent guest on MSNBC, FOX and CNN - the trifecta of cable news channels - where she provides expert analysis on national politics.
During the forum, she will give an overview of the national elections, as well as share her insight into the key states, demographics and trends to watch for on Election Day.
She will be preceded by John Della Volpe, director of polling for the Harvard Institute of Politics, who will discuss the youth vote and political trends of the Millennial Generation.
A panel discussion will follow the keynote speech and will include Neil Levesque, executive director of the New Hampshire Institute of Politics. It will also include several faculty experts - including Southern's Art Paulson and Theresa Marchant-Shapiro from the Political Science Department; Julian Madison from the History Department and Lesley DeNardis from Sacred Heart University's Political Science Department.
A question-and-answer period will be conducted after the panel discussion and will be moderated by Diane Alverio, publisher of CT Latino News and a former TV journalist. Get your questions answered from a variety of perspectives.
The program is not intended to be a debate about who people think should be elected president or which party they would like to see control Congress, but rather is designed to give the audience a glimpse of the latest polls, issues and developments of the campaigns, and what to look out for on Election Day, no matter who you are voting for.
Apple pie and limited light refreshments will be available.
