EXPERTS ON FATHERHOOD AND WORK-FAMILY BALANCE TO BE FEATURED AT SEPTEMBER 19 EVENT
Balancing a job and a personal life can be tough for anyone. Both men and women -- whether they are married or unmarried, parents or not, caring for aging parents or beloved pets -- can struggle with the often competing demands of work and home.
Dr. Kyle Pruett (left) and Dr. Marsha Kline Pruett (right) will discuss the importance of work-life balance and how that may be attained when they deliver the keynote address at the third annual Work-Life Balance Conference to be held at Southern on Friday, Sept. 19 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Kyle Pruett is a noted child psychiatrist and author, and Marsha Kline Pruett is a clinical psychologist who treats children, adults and families. The Pruetts, who are married to each other, will share their personal experiences with both having demanding careers and raising children, as well as speaking from a professional standpoint on achieving work-life balance.
A clinical professor of child psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Kyle Pruett is the author of Fatherneed: Why Father Care Is as Essential as Mother Care for Your Child and The Nurturing Father: Journey Toward the Complete Man, among other publications. He has presented at the United Nations' Summit on Fathers, is a columnist and frequent contributor to national publications, has performed pioneering research on fathers and their children and is a media personality and Lifetime TV series host.
Dr. Marsha Kline Pruett holds an endowed chair at Smith College and previously was associate professor in the Law and Psychiatry Division at the Yale University School of Medicine and the Yale Child Study Center. Her writings include numerous scholarly articles, chapters, and a co-authored book, Your Divorce Advisor: An Attorney and Psychologist Lead You Through the Legal and Emotional Landscape of Divorce. Dr. Kline Pruett's research interests revolve around family issues specific to family and juvenile law. Her research promotes healthy family development during life transitions.
In addition to the Pruetts' address, the conference will include a panel discussion on the various strategies used to achieve balance between work and home life. Panelists will include men and women with personal and professional experience in elder care, working from home, telecommuting, and balancing work, education, and family.
