The University strategic plan
In the fall of 2005, President Cheryl J. Norton announced the initiation of a university strategic planning process. This process, which solicited the active involvement of the entire campus community, resulted in a University Strategic Plan for 2007-2012.
In the midst of a $260 million construction and facilities improvement project, the president appointed new administrative leaders in University Advancement, Academic Affairs, and Student/University Affairs. In addition, the institution continued to recruit highly qualified, diverse faculty and staff. Southern Connecticut State University has been truly undergoing an institutional renaissance. It is fitting, then, that we engaged in a thoughtful, transparent, and forward-looking strategic planning process to create an outstanding urban, comprehensive university positioned to meet the challenges of the 21st century. These are indeed exciting times for Southern.
This Web site was developed to facilitate communication with the various members of the campus community and those from outside of the campus who are interested in the future goals and direction of the institution. I invite you to visit the E-Resource Center on this page which contains many of the reports, studies, and other documents that provided historical background for this process and informed the Steering Committee as it developed the actual Plan. The Steering Committee was supported by ten Strategic Working Groups, comprised of over 160 faculty, staff, and students, the membership of which can be found on this page, along with the minutes of the meetings that were held by those groups. Both the Steering Committee and the Strategic Working Groups regularly posted their meeting times, upcoming events, and draft documents here for your convenience. From time to time, draft documents were posted in a way to solicit input from the campus community. In an effort to encourage inclusivity and participation throughout the planning process, a Suggestion Box was also made available.
We thank you for being a part of Southern's future.
