The Communication Department at Southern Connecticut State University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position in Instructional Communication and Technology at the Assistant Professor level. The Communication Department offers three concentrations: Advertising & Promotions; Film, Television, and Digital Production; and Personal and Professional Communication. We are seeking candidates who can offer a range of Communication courses, including core, theory, and portfolio-based courses. Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities:
Candidates are expected to teach courses in their area of expertise and develop an active research program that provides opportunities for students. All faculty at SCSU share in academic advising and participate in department/university service. Candidates must be committed to teaching within a vibrant and demanding public liberal arts and sciences environment.
Tenure-track faculty at SCSU are expected to conduct research/creative activity in their area of expertise. Creative activities include mentoring student research leading to publication of theses, publishing articles in academic and professional journals, seeking funding in support of research and teaching needs, and contributing to workshops and conferences.
Candidates must have received a Ph.D. in Communication or a closely related field by the time of appointment. Candidates must also provide evidence of both their ability to engage in meaningful research activity and of ability to teach in their area of expertise.
Preferred candidates will have an earned Ph.D. in Communication or closely related field in hand with a history of professional experience, particularly in the areas of creative application, new media, and/ or public relations. Familiarity with Mac OS, iOS apps, and Adobe Creative Suite software is also preferred.
