The Art Department at Southern Connecticut State University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position in Graphic Design at the Assistant Professor level.  The Art Department offers undergraduate majors in Art History, Art Education, and Studio Art, with concentrations in Ceramics, Graphic Design, Jewelry and Metals, Painting and Drawing, Photography, Printmaking, and Sculpture.  It also offers a post-baccalaureate program leading to initial teacher certification.  We are seeking an Interactive Design Specialist with expertise in coding, web design, and animation who can teach and advise students in our Graphic Design concentration.  Please see our website at for more information.

Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities:  Candidates are expected to teach courses in their area of expertise and develop an active research program that provides opportunities for students. All faculty at SCSU share in academic advising and participate in department/university service.  Candidates must be committed to teaching and creative activity within a vibrant and demanding public liberal arts and sciences environment.  Tenure-track faculty at SCSU are expected to conduct research/creative activity in their area of expertise.  Creative activities include mentoring student research leading to publication of theses, publishing articles in academic and professional journals, seeking funding in support of research and teaching needs, and contributing to workshops and conferences.

Required Qualifications:  M.F.A. in Graphic Design or related field or equivalent terminal degree by time of appointment.  Candidates must possess strong professional skills and experience teaching Graphic Design at the university level, at least as a teaching assistant. 

Preferred Qualifications:  Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience beyond teaching assistantships and strong skills and interests in the areas of interactive design cited above.
