Southern seeks an innovative and dynamic individual to serve as the Director of External Relations in the School of Business.  The School in in a growth period, with faculty and staff hires, strong enrollments, and over 7,000 alumni.  AACSB accreditation is a strategic goal of the School, and its members are in the process of obtaining this prestigious indicator of quality.  Additionally, the School is slated to design and build a $52 million building over the next two – five years.

The Director of External Relations will be responsible for devising, planning and implementing the School of Business’ external relations strategy in order to increase corporate and civic engagement, to cultivate and curate relationships with external educational entities both at home and abroad, and to maximize the administration’s, the students’, and the faculty members’ effective engagement with the stakeholders.  The Director will support the Dean in her work with the Business Advisory Council, grow its membership, and will identify and cultivate relationships with alumni and potential donors.

Qualifications:  An MBA or Master's degree in a business-related field, plus 5 years of progressively more responsible experience in development, communications, marketing, public relations, or closely related field. Demonstrated ability to plan, develop, deliver, and evaluate organizational programs and initiatives that are outward-facing and can lead to resource development.   Demonstrated ability to manage effectively a budget. Demonstrated exceptional interpersonal skills accompanied by strong oral and written communications skills. Proven skills in leadership, management, promoting and managing change, team building, collaboration, and in creating, communicating, managing and extracting value for stakeholders.  Ability to work in both traditional and digital media platforms. These qualifications may be waived for individuals with appropriate alternate experience.
