Southern seeks a dynamic individual to serve as the Payroll Coordinator. This position is responsible for the recruitment, training and management of the Payroll department, the smooth administration of all payroll activities and the reconciliation of payroll expenditures to State and University systems, including coding, retroactive pay, employee deductions and tax filing status information, honorarium and grant payments, student worker payroll, overtime and other differential pay calculations and special merit awards. The Payroll Coordinator collaborates closely with the University’s Human Resources Department, fiscal officers, various State agencies and the Connecticut State University System; and implements provisions of all bargaining unit contracts and employee policies and procedures as they relate to payroll activities.
Bachelor’s Degree is required. A minimum of four (4) years of progressive experience in a comprehensive Payroll operation demonstrating increasing responsibility for the effective development and implementation of computerized payroll, fiscal and/or administrative systems, the incumbent should also possess a minimum of two (2) years in a staff supervisory role, along with the ability to prepare and interpret analytical reports using tools such as the Microsoft Office Suite and other PC based reporting packages. State payroll experience is preferred but not required. Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills are necessary.
These qualifications may be waived for individuals with appropriate alternate experience.
