UNiversity Assistant (Athletic Communications)

Southern Connecticut State University is accepting applications for the position of Athletic Communications Assistant. This position reports to the Associate Director of Athletics/Communications.

A member of the Connecticut State University System (CSUS), Southern Connecticut State University is a flourishing community of more than 11,000 students located in New Haven. Founded as a teachers college in 1893, Southern has evolved into a comprehensive university offering more than 100 graduate and undergraduate programs.

The athletic department fields 19 varsity sports (eight men, 11 women) that compete at the Division II level as a member of the Northeast-10 Conference and Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (gymnastics). Southern's programs have won 10 NCAA team titles and 78 NCAA individual championships.

The Athletic Communications Assistant will assist in all facets of the department's operation including, but not limited to: sports information, marketing, promotions and community relations.

The Assistant will handle all duties pertaining to his/her assigned sports, including, but not limited to: publications, in-game statistical analysis, media relations, web maintenance, archival maintenance, coordination of home event operations, Northeast-10 and NCAA reporting, and other duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Athletics/Communications.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, sports management or a related field. Applicants must also have at least one year of experience in athletic communications, sports information, media relations, journalism or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Proficiency with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop, video editing software, Microsoft programs and The Automated Scorebook. Familiarity with social media web/mobile programs.
