Senate Membership
All members of the instructional faculty bargaining unit are eligible to serve in the Senate and vote for its members. Elected members serve a term of 3 years. Approximately one-third of the members are elected each year.
Full-time faculty members are entitled to proportional representation in the Senate by their department or grouping of departments. The full-time members of each department, along with Athletics, Counseling, and Library Services, are considered a voting unit. Voting units containing 15 or less members are entitled to one senate seat; 16-30, two senate seats, etc.
Four part-time faculty members are also elected. The only stipulation is that no more than one member can come from each department.
There is also a representative from the Graduate Council and the Undergraduate Curriculum Forum in the Senate.
Additionally, the immediate Past President of the Senate is also a member, as well as the President of the University, who is an ex-officio, non-voting member.
