How to Apply for Financial Aid for 2012-2013

To receive financial aid at Southern Connecticut State University, a student must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
  • Be registered with the Selective Service Administration (if a male)
  • Be formally admitted by the Admissions Office or Graduate Studies by our priority date* for maximum consideration of gift aid.
  • Complete the 2012-13 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by our priority date*
  • Be enrolled for a minimum of 6 credits hours per semester for undergraduate students and a minimum of 4.5 credits per semester for graduate students.
  • Be making Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) - Go to www.southernct.edu/financialaid to view the policy.

Student Responsibility:

  • Complete the 2012-13 FAFSA by the priority date* at www.fafsa.ed.gov. 
  • Click on "LINK TO IRS" to transfer your 2011 Federal Tax Return information onto the FAFSA.**
  • Enter our federal code 001406.
  • Select a housing code (on-campus, commuting from home, or off-campus).
  • Sign the FAFSA with your FAFSA pin.  If you are a dependent student, your parent must also sign the FAFSA using his/her own FAFSA pin.

*Priority Dates for 2012-2013

Fall 2012 semester              March 2, 2012

Spring 2013 semester         November 2, 2012

Valid FAFSA applications processed by the federal processor and received by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships by the priority date will be reviewed within six to eight weeks of the priority date.

Students who complete the FAFSA after our priority date, may not have financial aid in place by the bill due date.  If the aid is not in place, the student must pay the bill by the due date or contact the Bursar's Office to participate in a payment plan.

FAFSA applications that are incomplete or not signed cannot be considered for financial aid until the necessary corrections/signatures have been submitted to and processed by the federal processor.
