Frequently Asked questions 2008-2009
The Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships (OFAS) has prepared this notice with important information about the financial aid application process.
How do I obtain the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)?
You are urged to file the 2008-2009 FAFSA on the Web at www.fafsa.ed.gov. However, students can request a paper FAFSA by calling the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-4-FED-AID or by visiting http://www.edpubs.org. Also, students can download a PDF version of the FAFSA by visiting www.FederalStudentAid.ed.gov.
How do I apply for financial aid?
The process is quite simple at SCSU. Each applicant need only to file the appropriate FAFSA on the web and fulfill all eligibility requirements of the financial aid process previously stated. OFAS must receive a complete and valid Institutional Student Information Report (ISIR) from the federal processor.
"Priority Date" for the filing of the 2008-2009 FAFSA is March 7, 2008.
Will OFAS require financial aid information in addition to the FAFSA?
Not necessarily. OFAS does not require an institutional financial aid application, except for summer school. However, the federal government may require us to request documentation you used to complete your FAFSA. OFAS will request your documentation in writing.
What is the Title IV school code for S.C.S.U.?
The Title IV code is: 001406
Can I still file my FAFSA if I am not accepted to the university?
YES, it is in your best interest to submit your FAFSA by the "priority date" even if you have not been accepted. However, OFAS will not process your application until you have been officially accepted by the Undergraduate Admission Office as a matriculated student or the Office of Graduate Studies.
What happens if the federal processor processes my FAFSA after the "priority date?"
Your financial aid application will be considered "late." You are urged to file your FAFSA on the Web and to utilize the electronic signature component available to you upon completion of the application.
When will I hear about my financial aid award notification from OFAS?
OFAS generally begins mailing award notification during the month of March. However, those students selected for "verification" by the federal processor will be required to submit required documents prior to receiving their award notification.
