STUDENT LOAN INFORMATION

Southern Connecticut State University participates in recommending choice lenders to its student body for the purpose of borrowing subsidized and unsubsidized federal student loans.  The Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships (OFAS) recommends each borrower select one of the lenders from the attached list.  However, as a student or parent borrower, you also have the right to select a student loan provider (lender) that may not be on our list.

Of course, it is highly recommended that each student or parent borrow from one lender throughout the course of the student's undergraduate and graduate enrollment at SCSU.

How did OFAS establish its list of student loan lenders?

Each year, during the month of October, student loan representatives are invited to discuss their student loan products, interest rates, and loan repayment incentives with an established university committee comprised of financial aid personnel, a student accounts representative, and a student leader. Every lender representative is required to submit, in writing, its borrowers' benefits information as well as its customer service record. This information was compiled and evaluated based on the lenders' past performances in various areas of assessment as determined by the committee.

At the completion of this year's interview process, the university committee recommended five student loan providers which the committee believes would offer the student loan products that meet the needs of Southern Connecticut State University student borrowers and their families.
