What is the 2013 FITNESS CHALLENGE?

The All Star Fitness Challenge is a 5 week challenge to exercise more regularly!  It is an opportunity for SCSU students to start living a more active lifestyle for FREE!

You can do your exercise ANYWHERE, members can workout at the SCSU Fitness Center, non-members can count exercise done at other gyms, the Moore Field House, during intramurals, at home etc.

**PRIZES: the first 100 students who reach their goal AND turn in their tracking sheet between ON TIME will receive a challenge t-shirt.

Didn't reach your goal? Still turn in your tracker by 3/11/13 for entry into a grand prize drawing! (prize TBD).

 

 

1. WHEN IS IT?

  • Starts WEDNESDAY 1/30/13 Ends TUESDAY 3/5/13

 

2. WHAT IS IT?

    1. Choose an individual 'point' goal:

  • 750 points
  • 1,500 points
  • 2,000 points

        Choose a goal that is challenging, but achievable!

 

3. REGISTER

  

4. EARN POINTS BY EXERCISING:

  1. Each minute of exercise is worth 1 point.
  2. Maximum 120 points per day.

Bonus point opportunities (like points for attending a Zumba for Heart Health event) will be available to help you reach your goal, even during your busiest week. Bonus point opportunities will be listed on this page.

 

5. Complete weekly challenges

    In addition to our overall point challenge, we'll give you the option to get points by participating in weekly challenges to help you in the areas of flexibility, strength, endurance, healthy eating and healthy body composition.

 

6. COMPLETE THE CHALLENGE

  1. Turn in your completed tracking sheet by 4pm on 3/11/13 to be entered in our grand prize drawing.
  2. Be one of the first 100 students to complete your goal AND turn in your tracking sheet between 3/5-3/11 and get a t-shirt too (as long as we can secure funding!).

We will order tees after the challenge, so we will give out t-shirts to students AFTER the challenge has ended. We'll contact you to pick yours up.

***Even if you reach your point goal before 3/5/13, we will not accept any tracking sheets before 3/5/13.

 

 


DISCLAIMER: This program is for healthy adults.  If you know of any health condition you currently have, you should NOT participate in this challenge.  Instead seek guidance from your physician on what physical activity, if any, is appropriate for you.  Use this SELF GUIDED Physical Activity Readiness questionnaire before engaging in ANY exercise program.

Frequently Asked Questions:

 

Q: I am not a member of the SCSU Fitness Center, can I use the Fitness Center during the 6 week challenge?

A: Non-mebers can participate in the challenge, but do NOT receive a free 5 week membership.  Students can join for the semester for $60 if they want access to the SCSU Fitness Center.  Otherwise, be creative about where & how you do your workouts!

 

Q: I'm afraid I will  lose my exercise tracking sheet, what should I do?

A: Join www.sparkpeople.com or find a mobile app that lets you track your exercise minutes, then copy them into your exercise tracking sheet.  If you do lose your sheet, email us at fitness@southernct.edu and we'll send you another.

 

Q: I am no where NEAR my point goal I challenged myself to earn. Should I just quit?

A: Don't quit! Check back for bonus point opportunities & try to get back on track.  You made a committment to yourself- you can do it!  If you are still having trouble, email us at fitness@southernct.edu and maybe we can help.  Don't forget, just turning in your challenge tracker by 3/11/13 at 4pm will put you into our grand prize drawing! 

 

Q: What are the prizes I have the chance to win if I finish the challenge?

A: Challenge t-shirt for the first 100 students f that reach their goal & turn in their completed tracking sheet between 3/5-3/11/2013. 

No exercise trackers (even if completed) will be accepted before 3/5/13.

REMEMBER you must complete & turn in your exercise tracker before 3/11/13 in order to 'complete' the challenge.

You also get 5 bonus points for turning it in on time! 

All tracking sheets turned in on time will also be entered to win a grand prize (TBD)

 

Q:WHAT ARE THE PRIZES?

A: Besides winning the benefits of exercise for your body and mind, we have applied to SAFAC to  fund t-shirts for our first 100 students that meet their goal AND turn in their trackers.  We're finalizing a grand prize that ALL participants who turn in their tracking sheets by 4pm on 3/11/13 will be entered to win!

Shirts will be available after we custom order them at the end of the challenge; we'll alert winners when to come & pick up their prize.
