2nd annual Team Summer fitness challenge

EARN POINTS:

    With EXERCISE:

  • Each minute of exercise is worth 1 point. (Maximum 75 points per day per person)

 

   With Weight Loss:

  •  1 pound lost = 10 points
  •  Maximum 20 points per person per week for weight loss

With Weigh-In:

5 bonus points

Weigh-in each Friday at the Fitness Center for accurate weight loss results and tracking by your team trainer.  No penalty for weight gain.

 

 

BONUS POINT PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS:

 

Group Exercise Classes  (members only)

Cycling: Try this EXPRESS intense cardio session in our cycling room. Water bottle and towel recommended!

Sculpt: Resistance training designed to build muscular strength and tighten the body.

 Yoga: Stretch, tone and build core strength with yoga poses.  Perfect for beginners.

Group exercise classes will be first come, first serve.  Space is Limited.

 

Educational Workshops/Challenges (ALL CHALLENGERS WELCOME)

Weight Training 101: This educational session offers participants an opportunity to learn the basics of weight training and its health benefits.  Attendees will be able to participate in a hands on workshop focused on improving their knowledge in the weight room.

Nutrition Basics: This workshop will focus on basic nutrition guidelines for exercising populations.  Nutrition is a key component of weight loss and healthy living.

Team Treadmill 5k: Teams will be challenged to run/walk a total of 3.1 miles and attempt to finish with the best time possible.  Teams must have a minimum of 3 participants present in order to participate in the treadmill 5k.  Each participant will run/walk for 2 minutes at their desired speed, then hand off a turn to their teammate.  Teams will rotate members on the treadmill in a specific order to try and reach their distance in the best collaborative time possible! Strategy can help- do you put your strongest runner in front to give you a lead or place them in the back to anchor the race?  This is a fun and competitive event between all teams in the Fitness Challenge for 20 bonus points each and of course, bragging rights!

  

 COMPLETE THE CHALLENGE

  1. Each member of the team will track their daily minutes of exercise, bonus classes/sessions completed and weight loss.
  2. Team captains will collect team members' weekly results and submit them using the team captain tracking form.  Results are due by 4:30 pm on each Monday during the challenge.  These dates are 7/9, 7/16, 7/23, 7/30, 8/6 and 8/13.
  3. Challenge results will be posted weekly on the SCSU Fitness Center Challenge facebook page.  Teams will be able to interact and view how other teams are doing.
  4. The winning team will be chosen by highest average minutes exercised, bonus points acquired and weight loss points.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

This is a program for current SCSU Faculty and Staff members only.

DISCLAIMER: This program is for healthy adults.  If you cannot maintain a brisk walk (moderate intensity exercise) or know of any health condition you currently have, you should NOT participate in this challenge.  Instead seek guidance from your physician on what physical activity, if any, is appropriate for you.  Use this SELF GUIDED Physical Activity Readiness questionnaire before engaging in ANY exercise program.

Frequently Asked Questions:

 

Q: I am not a member of the SCSU Fitness Center, can I use the Fitness Center during the 6 week challenge?

A: Non-members can participate in the challenge but may not use the facility unless there is a bonus class available.  If you sign up for the challenge you are eligble to purchase a summer membership for a discounted price of $19.99.   Otherwise, be creative about where & how you do your workouts!

 

Q: I'm afraid I will  lose my exercise tracking sheet, what should I do?

A: The exercise tracking sheet will be available in a pdf format on our website.  If you think you'll misplace the paper sheet, use an app for your phone or keep a log of your points in your outlook calendar to transfer onto the tracking sheet at the end of the program (we will collect them!).  

Q: WHAT ARE THE PRIZES?

A: Besides winning the benefits of exercise for your body and mind, T-shirts for the team with the best name (decided by FC staff) and team with highest point average.  Winning team also gets 1 month free to the SCSU Fitness Center AND a free group class of your choice.  We'll also throw in a few other goodies if we can find them!
