The SCSU Department of World Languages and Literatures offers several undergraduate and graduate programs of study. Undergraduates can major or minor in Spanish, French, Italian, or German. We offer a full range of courses in these languages and associated cultures at all levels, and we also offer coursework in Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, and Latin. We encourage all students, especially language majors and minors, to participate in study abroad.
We offer a variety of options for individuals interested in second and foreign language teaching (FLT), including initial FLT certification, a cross-endorsement program for certification in FLT besides another subject, a graduate FLT certification program for individuals holding bachelor's degrees, and an FLT certification program for individuals currently employed in Connecticut with a Durational Shortage Application Permit (DSAPs).
We also offer a series of programs in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and Bilingual Education (BE), including a master's of science degree and cross-endorsement certification.
