BILINGUAL EDUCATION CROSS ENDORSEMENT at SCSU

State Requirements (as of 10/30/06)*

Teachers  holding a valid Connecticut teaching certificate within the endorsement areas or fields of early childhood, elementary, middle grades, secondary academic subjects, special subjects, or special education, may add the bilingual education endorsement upon completion of:

  • Praxis I Computer Based Test:  The reading and writing components are required.
  • Language Proficiency:  Demonstrated proficiency in the language of the bilingual program (OPI & WPT), and English oral proficiency (OPI).

AND

18 semester hours of credit from an accredited college, including course work in each of the following areas:
1.  First and second language acquisition;
2.  Linguistic and academic assessment;
3.  Cross-cultural sensitivity and communication and implications for instruction;
4.  Strategies for modifying English content area instruction;
5.  Methods of teaching English as a second language; and
6.  Methods of teaching bilingual education.
