The Academic Standards Committee (ASC) is charged with the responsibility to "recommend the minimum academic standards that should be enforced in the School of Graduate Studies; recommend procedures for enforcing and implementing the minimum academic standards; review existing courses, concentrations, certifications, dual degrees and programs on a rotating schedule and present recommendations to the Council." (Revised Rules of Order, 2005)
The Academic Standards Committee meets on the second Monday of each month (except September, January) during the academic year at 1:00 PM. The list of the members of the Academic Standards Committee can be located in the Graduate Council Committee Membership. For Spring 2009, the meetings will be held in EN B 121B. The Academic Standards committee reviews all approved graduate programs on a 5 Year Review Schedule (based on dates for presentations to the Graduate Council) with specific dates for submission of program reports, dates for meeting with the ASC, and dates for the presentations to the Graduate Council summarized in the Academic Standards Committee's Handbook (available in MS Word format upon request), the official handbook of the ASC. The Handbook contains all of the guidelines, procedures, templates, and checklists required for the written program self-study report as well as the ASC's program evaluation matrix and information regarding appearance before the ASC and the Graduate Council. Each program will submit a report for which a Template for ASC Review has been developed as an interactive MS Word document that incorporates the Graduate Program Review Guidelines. To assess its own program review process, the ASC has provided a Program Review Evaluation Form. The Chairperson of the ASC is available to consult with Departments in the preparation of program self-studies. The Office of Assessment and Planning (OAP) is available to assist departments/programs in developing program goals, objectives and measurable student outcomes. In addition, the OAP is in the process of creating online versions of the student, faculty, and alumni suveys required by the ASC. These surveys will be available beginning Fall 2009. The Office of Institutional Research is available to provide admissions data and summary course evaluations, both required for the self-study report.
