Program Presentation - Full Draft - Dec. 10, 2012 (approved by faculty Nov. 29, less Synthesis and Overview, added to the full draft on Dec. 6, 2012]

Appendices being collected

Southern's Master of Library Science program has been accredited by the American Library Association since 1972.

The program is scheduled for a comprehensive accreditation program review in the spring of 2013. This site has been created to facilitate access to our program presentation for our students and alumni and their employers, and other constituents as well as the public at large.

Preparation for the comprehensive review is approximately a 24-month process. Pre-planning began in fall 2010 with surveys and a followup workshop with constituents to create a shared vision

In preparation for the ALA's comprehensive accreditation review, the department will develop and submit a comprehensive self-study Program Presentation (draft due to the Office of Accreditation (OA) by December 10, 2012).

On April 9, 2012, the ILS faculty submitted to the OA Director and External Review Panel (ERP) chair a plan for developing the Program Presentation Report. ILS faculty will be working over the summer 2012 to develop drafts of responses to each of six standards, engaging constituents in the process.

Practitioners, students, alumni, and other constituents are encouraged to contact ILS faculty directly to become involved in preparing responses to the standards:

Standard I - Mission, Goals, and Objectives [Introduction to the Report] [DRAFT 1.0] [Approved 2011-2012 Strategic Goals Status Report] [Approved 2012-2013 Strategic Operational Plan]

Standard II - Curriculum [Course syllabi] [DRAFT 1.0]

Standard III - Faculty [DRAFT 1.0] [Detail of Faculty Activity]

Standard IV - Students [DRAFT 1.0]

Standard V - Administration and Financial Support [DRAFT 1.0]

Standard VI - Physical Resources and Facilities [DRAFT 1.0] [APPENDIX VI-A;B]

The External Review Panel (ERP) appointed by the American Library Association (ALA)'s Office of Accreditation will be on campus Monday and Tuesday, April 8 and 9, 2013, to meet with faculty, students, constituents in the community, and administration; and to review documents that are housed on-campus only.

The ERP chair is Elizabeth Aversa, Ph.D., University of Alabama. Dr. Aversa has been director of the library and information science schools at University of Alabama, University of Tennessee, and Catholic University.
