MANAGEMENT OF SCHOOL LIBRARY MEDIA CENTERS
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The school library media center is examined in the context modern educational systems. Organization, administration and services are discussed.
Prerequisite: ILS 503 or departmental permission. Scheduled fall semesters. 3 credits.
COURSE OBJECTIVES/STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. Analyze the functions and philosophies of the school library media center in relation to state and national standards to provide a frame of reference for effective implementation of programs that support the school community.2. Examine the structure and function of the school library media program in the larger school community in order to effectively aid in the implementation of the instructional process.
3. Given a description of a proposed school, the student will design the elements of a comprehensive school library media center. Specifically you will be able to (orally or in writing):
a. Write a brief statement of philosophy and objectives.
b. Name the various spaces needed (also size) in the proposed facility.
c. Write educational specifications for one or more areas of the school LMC.
d. Produce a staff deployment pattern and job descriptions for the LMC staff.
4. Given a case study dealing with a problem, or problems, in the field, l provide (orally or in writing) the following:
a. Main problem
b. Related problems
c. Alternative solutions to the main problem
d. Best solution to the main problem
