READER'S ADVISORY SERVICES
COURSE DESCRIPTION
An overview of the methods and resources for implementing programs geared to patrons seeking help in selection materials relevant to their reading interests.
Prerequisites: IlS 501, 503, 504. Scheduled irregularly. 3 credits.
COURSE OBJECTIVES/STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES
- Further develop a philosophy of service, building on core classes, that focuses on the cultural role of libraries and information centers.
- Synthesize the ethical professional responsibilities of intellectual freedom and universal access to information.
- Identify and analyze the information needs and opportunities of individual and organizations.
- Implement and evaluate systems, technologies services and products that connect readers with materials.
- Investigate current research relating to the role of reading in an information society.
- Practice the management, communication and organizational skills to facilitate readers advisory.
