Social Science - Literature and Sources


COURSE DESCRIPTION

Advanced course in subject analysis and use directed toward strengthening command of resources in this major subject area. Course surveys and evaluates information resources in major areas of the social sciences and computer based instruction in library and information provision settings.


COURSE OBJECTIVES/STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES

Through lecture notes, readings, discussion and course assignments/projects, this course will provide a basic understanding of the concepts involved  in multiple media interface design by introducing concepts, components and technologies of  the discipline.

Upon successful completion of the course, it is expected that students will be able to:

  • Identify the characteristics and uses of the literature of the Social Sciences.
  • Locate and critically evaluate the primary and secondary resources in the Social Sciences.
  • Identify the organization and characteristics of the various types of information and resources that comprise the literature of the Social Sciences.
  • Understand the range of problems and questions in the field and the most effective processes and strategies for addressing them.
  • Develop a strategy/pathfinder for presenting information from a social science discipline of interest to a specific group of users.
  • Provide a framework by which the student can identify the significant resources that will appear in the future and a basis for selecting Social Science material.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

Prerequisites:
Students take this course are required to complete ILS 501, ILS 503 and ILS504.
