Scholarships awarded by ILS' Scholarship Committee
The Department of Information and Library Science is pleased to announce the availability of this year's nearly $17,000 in scholarships for full and part-time students of the department.
Students applying for scholarships should submit a 200-word essay to the Department Scholarship Committee. Awards will be made on the basis of need, past accomplishments, and future promise as information professionals, per the criteria stipulated in each scholarship (see below).
H.W. Wilson Foundation Scholarship
Scholarship Criteria:
- The student(s) must be either a full time or part time graduate student as defined by the University.
- The student(s) must be accepted into the ILS (Library & Information Science) program.
Sage Family Trust Library Science Scholarship - CT
residents only
Scholarship Criteria:
- The student(s) recipient must be a full-time student in the MLS program.
- The student(s) must be resident of Connecticut.
- The student must have attained a cumulative grade point average that is among the highest 10% of all applicants to the MLS program who are also Connecticut residents.
- The scholarship(s) may be renewed annually to the recipient(s) provided that the recipient(s) continues to be a Connecticut resident, a full-time student in the MLS program, is in good academic standing as determined by the MLS program and the University.
Jill Smith Memorial Scholarship
Scholarship Criteria:
- The student(s) must be a full or part time graduate student as defined by the University.
- Preferably the student(s) will be a mature student residing in the State of Connecticut.
- The student(s) must be enrolled in the Library Science Master's Degree program at SCSU.
Zing T. Jung Endowed Scholarship
Scholarship Criteria:
- The student must be a full time (9 or more credits) or half time (6 credits) graduate student enrolled in the School of Education's Master of Library Science program.
- The student must be in good standing with a GPA of 3.0 or above.
- The student must demonstrate financial need according to the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship.
- The student must have demonstrated leadership ability and community service in high school or college.
- The scholarship(s) may be renewed annually to the recipient(s) provided satisfactory academic progress is achieved and provided all criteria specified above continues to be met.
Award recipients, once established in their careers, are encouraged to contribute to the Zing T. Jung Endowed Scholarship Fund in support of future award recipients.
